Antennae
Series of wood panel paintings shown in group exhibition Back to Normal at artist-run space Trixie.
In this series of five paintings I reflect on a period of depression during which making drawings in my notebooks became the only way to express artistically. These drawings became a tool for me to try to make sense of this situation. Antennae talks about perceiving the world through unfamiliar sense organs. A change of mental state can drastically alter one's perception of reality, alienating them from it.
Back to Normal is an international exhibition and networking event initiated by Alternative Art Guide and Artist Run Network Europe (ARNE). The intent of this event was to partner up each of four different artist-run spaces from The Hague with two other artist-run spaces: one from inside and one from outside of Europe, resulting in a large-scale event with a total of twenty-four participating artists from twelve different artist-run space spaces. These artists took part in three group exhibitions in The Hague, located at Quartair, Billytown and Trixie.
Trixie ended up partnering with one other artist-run space: U10 Artspace from Belgrade, Serbia. The seven participating artist included Iva Kuzmanović (U10), Marija Šević (U10), Nina Ivanović (U10), Nemanja Nikolić (U10), Lidija Delić (U10), Thijs Jaeger (Trixie) and Jonas Raps (Trixie).
Back to Normal was part of The Hague Contemporary Art Weekend 2022 and was supported by: Stroom Den Haag, ARNE, Creative Europe, Municipality of The Hague.
